Madison Program
BLC at the University of Wisconsin—Madison is a Ph.D. curriculum in the Art History department. Known as the Architectural Option, it is designed for students whose research is focused on historical study of architecture. The Architectural Option offers training in specialized skill areas for students working in this area. Many students involved in the Option also participate in the Material Culture Program and the Center for Visual Cultures. The Architectural Option was approved in June of 2008; the first class matriculated in 2009.
The BLC student's primary advisor is typically on the home campus, although co-advisors can come from both Madison and Milwaukee campuses. The formation of the prelim and final oral committees would consist of five people one of whom may be from UW-Milwaukee. The list of faculty members who teach courses that count toward the option includes faculty from a wide variety of Departments and Programs including (but not limited to) Geography, Planning and Landscape Architecture, History, Folklore, and the Nelson Institute. See the BLC People page for more information.
